Grand Slam love fest

Interest in the off-court antics of the high-ranking players has reached fever pitch in Search with people enthralled with the love matches off the court not to mention the fashion and fitness stakes of the Australian Open tennis players.

Tennis fans were more consumed with love away from the net with interest peaking in the players off-court antics specifically who dated who, who's dating who and tennis players fashion as well as tennis players fitness tips.

There's a fine line from the court to the catwalk as evidenced by Russian blonde bombshell Maria Sharapova - a star on the court last year. Even if you don't play that well, as long as you have the looks! Look at Anna Kournikova, she never won a singles tournament but the glamour girl still earns millions each year in endorsements, long after retirement.

This year it's all about that feisty, gorgeous brunette, fifth seed, Ana Ivanovic. On centre court this week in a very Yahoo!7 like Purple, Ana may have been the runner up last year but seems to be struggling with her form this year. Still, you don't care. Seems Ana can do no wrong, long as she looks hot. Searches on Ana Ivanvoic and related queries on 'who is Ana dating', 'what does Ana Ivanovic eat to stay in shape?' and 'hot Ana Ivanovic pictures' as well as lookups on Ana Ivanovic training have snared your interest.

Perhaps she's distracted now she's captured the interest of Fernando Verdasco. Not too long ago she courted the love interest of Radek Stepanek, a plain looking tennis player who holds the court of appeal. Stepanek seems to be able to capture the attention of pretty young female tennis players such as Nicole Vaidisova. He was even engaged once to Martina Hingis. The guy's gotta be a smoothie. People are so confused with his Casanova powers they're looking up 'Radek Stepanek dates pretty tennis players'.

Shock and incredulity continued to accompany queries related to Stepanek with searches on Ana's past romantic interests - of which Stepanek was one. Stepanek's prowess away from the court sparked online discussions about why Radek Stepanek has such pulling power with women. Questions such as 'did Ana Ivanovic date Radek Stepanek?' and 'What is it about pretty female tennis players and ugly tennis men'? continue to assail Search. Some speculated that much like in life away from the court, beautiful women choose less attractive men because the men are less likely to stray and the women are more the focus of attention in the relationship. Another pundit has said it's a matter of number crunching - there are simply more attractive women in the world than handsome men generally because good-looking parents are more likely to have a baby daughter as their first child than a baby son. Hmmm.

Tournament favourite Venus Williams who always had the knack for boosting buzz suffered shocking defeat at the hands of Spain's Carla Suarez Navarro. Nobody would have thought Venus, the queen of tennis would have been knocked out in the second round. Now who's going to serve us up those brightly-coloured tennis outfits? If Venus' skills on the court dissipate over time, she could always give Stella McCartney a run for her money in the clothing stakes with Venus having launched her  own fashion line, EleVen.

Meanwhile Roger Federer in recent online articles appears to sound very unimpressed to be World number two. Obviously not used to taking that lowly rank, Federer is looking to getting to the top of his game and make tennis history.

However for the armchair pundits, interest online centred more on his personal life than his ranking. Queries on 'Roger Federerer girlfriend' skyrocketed as well as queries on 'Roger Federer's girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec' including some rather unkind discussions about whether Mirka was good-looking enough for him. Good looking enough? Anyone zoomed in on Roger himself lately? Not as plain as Stepanek but not exactly a complete oil painting either.

Roger's adversary, number one seed,  Spaniard's Rafael Nadal on the other hand is one major hottie as evidenced by the queries slammed into the Search box - not only 'Rafael Nadal hot', but 'Rafael Nadal hot hot' and a yawning nod to 'Rafael Nadal girlfriend' but you could almost sense the resentment that a Rafael Nadal paramour even existed.

Nadal and Federer might be rivals but they agree on one thing - a call to shift the Australian Open to February so it's not so close to the start of the year. No doubt so they can work off the excesses of Christmas and New Year's Eve parties before being thrust under the glare of the international spotlight via the Australian Open.

Former world number four and comeback queen Jelena Dokic is enjoying her moment in the spot light. In the Search stratosphere, people were interested in Jelena's tally of love over the net more than her love life. Jelena has expressed her desire to return to the world' s top 50 by this time next year. Her father Damir Dokic is never far from the headlines. Hellish tennis dad Damir has this time attracted his own buzz with news of his plotting a comeback of his own. Jelena's estragned dad wants to sell the farm in Serbia and use the proceeds to build a tennis centre to launch new talent. God help those poor future Jelena Dokic clones he will oppressively mould.

Boy wonder Bernard Tomic provided a glimmer of hope for Australia too and he did very well winning his first set against Gilles Muller but lost control in the second set. We thought we'd find the players who had most piqued your interest in this tournament to date.
