The way celebrities fall in and out of relationships, you'd assume that life in the showbiz spotlight must make it almost impossible to maintain a commitment. At least with lovers.
At least with lovers. Geri Halliwell appears to be more loyal to her gigantic, anonymous personal trainer than to any previous beau. Jessica Simpson would apparently never cheat on her hairdresser, Ken Paves. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are BFFs, regardless of their marital statuses. The couples that look to be making it work are those who eschew Hollywood altogether (Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward) or keep completely separate professional lives (Julia Roberts and Danny Moder). Now pets are another story. George Clooney's beloved 300 pound pot-bellied pig, Max, was his main squeeze for 18 years (and whose presence in the boudoir was one of the rumoured reasons behind George's split with Renee Zelwegger. There: I've set you up for as many comedic comments as you care to post!) and women seem to melt over the sight of Jake Gyllenhall with his pet puggle (half Beagle, half Pug).
Diamonds may be forever, so they say, but what about Ink? Keith Urban recently celebrated his one year wedding anniversary with Nicole Kidman by having her name tattoo'ed on him. Tradition dictates the first anniversary gift is something made of "paper," but maybe she's more impressed with his gesture than she would have been with a deed, cheque or other piece of parchment. Will the tattoo last longer than the marriage? When Johnny Depp had "Winona [Ryder] Forever" etched into his flesh, he probably never dreamed he'd have to painfully amend it to "Wino...Forever" once the relationship soured. Roseanne Barr went through laser removal hell to rid herself of reminders from her failed marriage to Tom Arnold. TRANSFORMERS beauty Megan Fox has nine (!) works of tattoo art, including a tribute to an ex-boyfriend who died tragically. On the soap opera PASSIONS, actor James Hyde ("Sam Bennett") spends extra hours in the makeup chair having all his tats covered up, because producers don't want the audience to see how ink-covered that hunky torso actually is. Love'em or hate 'em, tattoos are definitely an artistic expression of a person's commitment to something or someone. It's very unusual to see some random design that doesn't have some specific meaning behind it. I have three (so far) and, believe me, a lot of consideration and planning went into what I would have branded onto my body!
