Celebrity Addictions
Nelson gives his insights on celebrity addictions.
These days in Hollywood, there seems to be rehab for everything. Drug dependency, alcohol abuse, sexual harassment, eating disorders, porn addiction, anger management. Even for being politically incorrect! Britney, Nicole, Paris, Mel, Isaiah, Lindsay and the whole gang... Just have your publicist issue an apology, check in to a 5 star treatment facility for the weekend, then come on out and film a Public Service Announcement or cut a check to a philanthropic organization. Before you know it, VOILA! You're back on the set!

I think the Celebrity Fix-It biz needs to expand their horizons. How can we stage an intervention with the Beckhams to stop changing their hair colours/styles every five minutes, before they both go completely bald!? Is Brangelina's chronic orphan-adoptions indicative of a deeper problem? You could argue that plastic surgery, shopping on Robertson Boulevard and attention from the paparazzi are also out-of-control addictions in Tinseltown.

Joking aside...with each celebrity scandal that comes and goes, our society becomes increasingly desensitized to not only the severity of the problems, but the serious struggles that most "real" people face when trying to deal with their personal demons. It's a lot harder for the average Joe to show up at his local AA meeting or to detox from a drug habit than for a movie star who can afford the Betty Ford clinic in between press interviews. Where are the magazine covers and well-wishing talk show hosts for the mother of three who's been successfully on the wagon for 12 months? Have we, the public, become addicts, ourselves? Hooked on showbiz scandals??

Let's try this: the next time you come across a celebrity news story about an addiction-related incident (which should be in about, oh, 2 minutes), why not look around your own family, school, neighborhood or workplace and try to notice someone who's coping with these same kinds of issues? Acknowledge, encourage and support their efforts. Be a part of their recovery. They may not have publicists, agents or managers to help them out, but they have YOU. And YOU may be more than enough to make them feel like a STAR!

It IS sad how much "rehab" has been basically turned into a joke/punchline. Instead of being something to take seriously, it's now the "band aid" for every transgression no matter how large or small. It does do so much of a disservice to everyone trying to actually help themselves.

The stars of today probably wish they could have their embarrasing escapades swept under the rug like the stars of yesteryear. I wonder if stars nowadays are actually behaving themselves *more* than in the past? And people in general too, not just stars.

I do and dont feel sorry for celebs sometimes.
But it's what happens.
They become famous, they know it and all,and then go off the rails.
Dont get me wrong,I'd do anything to be famous but,I would seriously think about how I'm going to be and what I do
