The Heroic Lost Ninja

A Tale Of Two Cities...

Hey, and let me just say - WOW! I told you the first episode was amazing, didn't I?! First things first - sorry the post is late. My ninja-nection dropped out last night and I couldn't get it up, so let's give it a go now. We learned some major stuff last night - Fenry's real name, where the crazy critters come from, that the Others have a crazy animal research station, they still want our Losties' blood and they have a bookclub, plus plenty more.

So I'm late directing you there, but if you haven't seen the new secret clue video and write-up, head over here before you read any further. As you'll see, the Dharma station 'Hydra' is the source of both the polar bear and the logo-shark! I love the fact that the symbol is that of the Hydra, the multi-headed mythical creature that grew two heads for every head destroyed. Seems to fit the sprawling, insurmountable nature of the Others to a T.... For more on the Hydra beast, why not read this great wikipedia entry. I'm still uncertain why the Others took J, K & S's blood samples, but it must be the same reason they took Michael's last season... Perhaps to add to their crazy 'This Is Your Life: Manilla Folder Edition". I guess having all that info means they must still have an outside world connection...

That was great, but nothing could top the first five minutes. As promised by the promos, they changed everything. Anyone still thinking they might be in purgatory - WRONG. Staged crash? WRONG. Standing in the centre of Otherville, we saw the plane rip apart, the seperate sections now plummeting to their eventual landing spots. The plane crash is/was real, and not caused by Ol' Smokey. I hope Desmond, wherever he is, feels pretty bad about being solely responsible.

f you're having trouble remembering everything that went down, why not check out the 6 page gallery of shots from the ep? The one that has me the most interested is of the young guy, Karl, who tried to break Sawyer and himself out to escape. Why was he asking about the survivors and, more importantly, where have the Others taken him to now? I see three possibilities with him - he's an Other who has gone rogue and wants out; he was one of the Tailies captured on the 9th night; or that he's an Other running a con on Sawyer... What are your thoughts? Let me know down in the comments, let's see what odds we can get going on Karl...

It looks like Fenry - now known as Ben or Benry - is definitely in charge of Otherville. Staging a creepy breakfast to grill Kate, happy to leave Juliet to die at Jack's hands... how could he be one of the good ones? The most exciting moment of the episode for me personally was the way in which they answered about 20 questions in as many seconds - Benry dispatched Ethan to the fuselage after seeing the plane break apart mid-air, and sent Goodwin to do the same at the tail. Both were to make lists, due in 3 days, and to not draw attention to themselves. It seems Goodwin was far more efficient at following that order...

Did you notice the tension surrounding Juliet? Not only do she and Benry seem to share a history that has led to hostility, but Ethan was fixing her plumbing... Was she romantically involved with Ethan and, if she was, is she secretly out for Lostie blood? I hope not, having Jack locked up in that cage... I also loved that her song was Downtown, how appropriate considering we were about to see Otherville for the very first time. And she likes Stephen King's Carrie. Heh. That's great. Will she Carrie-out on us?

The flashback was fantastic as it gave us a completely new look at Jack and his struggle with being a perfectionist. In fact, you could say it flipped our notion of the noble doctor on it's head as he became a raving, stalking loon who just couldn't let it go. I mean, beating up your Dad at an AA meeting for supposedly stealing your wife and forcing him back to the bottle? Maybe fate decided the good doctor needed a little time out and sent him to the island... Click here for a full recap of what happened.

I promised that I've had some cool stuff to show you from my time in Hawaii, and I'm not lying - but I'm going to trickle it to you so you don't get spoiled! Here's you first pic - the amazing Dominic Monaghan, aka Charlie, letting loose and cutting sick on the decks. Don't ask me how I got my hands on this fantastic picture - remember, I'm not just any ninja, I'm The Ninja ;)

In case anyone is panicking, no I've not forgotten about Heroes. I'll be back with a look at this weeks episode a little later - let's just say that Claire waking up in the morgue was one hell of a shock! In the meantime, you should check out all the cool Heroes stuff here. Stay classy, truth seeking ninjas and ninjettes...

Namaste

EDIT: Sorry the Dom pick didn't go through - it seems I was attacked by censor monkeys... but I've beaten them off now!
