The juggernaut that is Australia keeps on chugging along. It was Australia's 10th win in a row in 2006 and it was clinical, professional and completely world class.
England had no answers. They were very much in the game when they had the Aussies 5-84, but the Hayden-Symonds partnership really did deflate them. From that moment, it was all over.
Brett Lee has been coming under fire for his lack of wickets. I have felt the criticism was not been justified. His bowling has been very good all series and it was nice to see a bit of luck go his way.
Brett's actually a better bowler with the old ball than the new ball. I like to see him bowl a short spell while the ball is new and swinging, then not bowl until it is quite worn. This is when he should bowl his longest spells. He looks his most dangerous when he's bowling very straight and on a good length. He also controls the old reverse swing ball better.
Brett got his rewards this game for all the hard work he's done over this series. Sometimes you can bowl beautifully and hardly get a wicket, other times you bowl similarly and get a bag.
I thought the Australian bowling was great this game, in total contrast to England's seemingly unplanned and undisciplined bowling. They bowled both sides of the wicket and looked like they didn't want to be out there. They have lots of work to do before Sydney.
Warney has had a wonderful send-off at the MCG in his last Test at his home ground.
He's an emotional guy. He'd have been chuffed to have all his family and close mates on hand to share this special moment in his career. He no doubt had all the people close to him in the dressing room to help celebrate.
In his final MCG Test, Shane's claimed man-of-the-match honours, his 700th Test wicket and has come within one wicket of 1000 international scalps. What a phenomenal achievement.
As he said, he couldn't have scripted it better. He does deserve to enjoy this moment, and we're all really looking forward to his and Glenn McGrath's final Test match in Sydney next week on Glenn's home ground.
I spoke with Glenn on Christmas eve, and he's looking forward to ending the series on a high note with a 5-0 whitewash.
Now that would be a fitting end for two of the greatest players to ever wear the baggy green.
Till Sydney
Dizzy
