JASON GILLESPIE'S ASHES 2006-07

Lucky I am getting up to Sydney tomorrow as opposed to my original plan of Saturday. To my English friends, I am sorry but it will be all over sometime tomorrow after lunch. Australia will win this much anticipated series 5-0. First ball tomorrow, England will begin at basically 5-12 with Pieterson in and Chris Read to follow as the only recognised batsmen left.

Panesar, as night watchman, could possibly hang around for 20 minutes in the morning. At the end of the day though, it is the top order that have yet again let the England team down. I'm not going to harp on it again as I have made my point in past blogs.

What a whirlwind morning! Gilly playing some great shots and Warney and Stuey Clark smacked them everywhere. I felt the English pacemen tried maybe a little too much variation in this period. It can be difficult to stem the flow of runs when batters are being ultra aggressive. The Aussies could afford to because they really have nothing to lose being 4-0 up.

There are going to be a couple of emotional cricketers tomorrow. Warney, Pidge and JL's potential last day of test cricket. I would be quite surprised if there wasn't a tear or two in the eyes. They will get the very best of send offs from the SCG crowd who are excellent. I must be off to pack my bags for my flight to Sydney in the morning. I don't get to the ground until lunchtime so here's hoping there is still a little bit of the game left by then.

Till next time

Dizzy

Goodbye to 3 of the greatest crickets to have ever played the game. It has been my privilege to enjoy them for so long, playing for the greatest country in the world.
I can only imagine what it must have been like to play with these champions, like you have Dizzy.

Thanks for the memories, may you all go down in history as the best.
As a proud Englishman I am gutted but we were murdered so well done Oz. Happy retirement to those who have left the arena. Tresco, Vaughan and Simon Jones were big misses but injury is part of sport and therefore no excuse. With the retirement of some of your most successful cricketers and the potential retirement of others who are the replacements and how successful will they be? Good luck in Yorkshire Dizzy but I expect my team Lancashire to lift the county championship.
