JASON GILLESPIE'S ASHES 2006-07

A fascinating day's play

It was an interesting day's play. England really needed to get through the new ball in the morning but were simply outclassed by the Aussie pace attack. I have mentioned a few times in past blogs that discipline and patience will bring rewards and the Aussies were certainly rewarded for this in the 1st session. A special mention to Gilly for taking five catches in an innings. This is a great achievement that probably does not get the accolades that a century or five wickets receives. I know that Gilly rates his wicket keeping achievements above his batting achievements so he will be one satisfied gloveman. He works extremely hard on his keeping. I spoke with Greg Quinn, South Australia's fielding coach and former grade cricket legend in SA. When the Aussies were in town for the Test match, Gilly asked Quinny for some help with his keeping drills. Quinny was like a kid in a candy store and told me later that Gilly had an amazing work ethic. He trained his butt off. He said it is no surprise that he has achieved so much in this game. Well done Gilly!

Tomorrow's first session will determine where this Test will head. Symmo showed that even in the last over of the day against Panesar that he is willing to take the bowling on. Getting him and Mike Hussey out early will put England in a good position. If they don't, trouble! The Aussie tail is capable of runs so England can ill afford to take them lightly.

I just got my flight to Sydney confirmed for Friday so I will be popping down to the ground for the last couple of days to see my retiring mates.

Have spoken to my great mates Damien 'FFF' Fleming and Colin 'Funky' Miller and they are going to be there too. 'FFF' has even invited me to a sponsors' tent after play on day four for a catch up drink. I think it would be very rude of me if I did not accept his invitation!

Til next time

Dizzy

Hi Dizzy,

I have really enjoyed reading your blog. I must say that you seem like a passionate cricketer and Australian in general. Your inside jokes on the Aussie team have been gold.

Enjoy the Aussie victory boys
