Naomi Watts gave birth to a healthy baby boy in Los Angeles overnight.
Alexander Pete Schreiber, who was born at 3:59 p.m. Los Angeles time, weighs 8 lbs., 4 oz, and is 22.5 inches long, according to Watts' spokesperson.
Looking like she was ready to pop, Watts, 38, and partner Liev Schreiber, 39, hosted an intimate baby shower last weekend, with the 15 guests including fellow Hollywood types such as Kate Hudson and Carla Gugino.
The couple got together in 2005, shortly after Watts had split from younger lover and fellow Aussie Heath Ledger, who she met while filming 'Ned Kelly'.
Schrieber confirmed the couple's happy news in February, 2007, on an appearance on NBC's 'Late Night with Conan O'Brien'.
At the time, he said that he was trying to stay out of picking the name for the impending arrival, but under no circumstances would it take his name. "It's an awful name," he moaned. "It's probably the most oft-mispronounced name in showbiz."
Last month Watts said of her blooming pregnancy: "[I'm] just being relaxed and moving at a much slower pace and enjoying it. I'm just really happy to be pregnant."
