L.A. Sheriff Lee Baca has claimed that the reason he reassigned distressed hotel heiress Paris Hilton to house arrest three days after she landed in jail was because he feared her life was "definitely in danger."

"When people are not functioning normally, they're not eating normally, they don't have a sense balance in their lives, god only knows what could happen," he said.
"We've had plenty of people die in the county jail system," he horrifying adds, before elaborating that it's "not because of anything we did, but because we didn't understand the medical problem."
Sheriff Baca has come under intense scrutiny after releasing Paris early to serve the remainder of her sentence under house arrest, despite sentencing Judge Michael T. Sauer's ruling that under no circumstances should that occur. As a result of taking it upon himself to disobey the Judge's orders, Baca was questioned about that decision by the L.A. Board of Supervisors.
He addressed reporters in the hallway before facing the L.A. County Board of Supervisors, and he had a few choice words for Paris Hilton.
He had a message for the celebutante - "Paris, do a better job in your life."
When pushed to respond further and directly address the former resident of Lynwood Correctional Facility, he said that 'The Simple Life' star should "Redirect your energy ... Stay out of trouble and follow the law."
Smarting from the scrutiny he has been placed under, he added that "Yes, she got special treatment...she got more time in jail than anybody in her situation."
However, despite presenting two medical reports to the Board of Supervisors, Baca's decision was nevertheless questioned.
"She looked pretty healthy at the MTV Awards before going into jail," said Supervisor Don Knabe.
Was Sheriff Baca correct in his decision to release Paris to home detention?
