Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen has walked away from lingerie fashion house Victoria's Secret...because they wouldn't pay her US$5 million a year!
Long considered the most famous and the highest-paid model in the world, since her emergence in the 1990s - she debuted on the cover of 'Vogue' in July, 1999, under the headline 'The Return of the Curve' - she's dominated billboards and magazine covers, as well as appeared in numerous television campaigns.
She appeared in the Guinness World Records as the "world's richest supermodel", with a net worth of $150 million.
During the taping of the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in 2002, Bundchen was the target of a protest made by four members of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals because she was signed to be the new face of Blackglama, a fur designing company.
Four women jumped into the runway holding posters that read "Gisele: Fur Scum" and included the logo for PETA. Bundchen tried to ignore them while several security guards detained the protesters - the segment was later re-recorded for broadcast.
But now they'll have to protest when she appears on other runways; Victoria's Secret are remaining mum, but reports have it that they can pay for 5 new models for what they paid for Leo DiCaprio's former girlfriend.
Is one model's endorsement worth US$5 million per year?
