Light-as-a-feather snowflakes
Gather your supplies
1 ball of No 20, No 30 or No 40 Coats mercer crochet cotton (for several snowflakes); 1.25mm crochet hook (when working with No 20 crochet cotton); 1.00mm crochet hook (when working with No 30 or 40 crochet cotton); scissors; tapestry needle; PVA craft glue; pins; flat piece of foam; flat dish; spoon; water

Snowflake A
Finished sizes: about 8cm (using
No 40 crochet cotton), 8.5cm (No 30) or 9cm (No 20) in diameter

Here's how
Begin with 10ch, sl st in 1st of 10ch to form a ring.

1st Rnd: 4ch, *dtr in ring, 1ch, triple tr in ring, 10ch, sl st in 4th ch from hook, working back along these ch, sl st in next 6ch, sl st in triple tr, 1ch, dtr in ring, 1ch, tr in ring, 1ch (rep from * 5 more times, omitting last tr and 1ch in final repeat), sl st in 3rd of 4ch from beg of rnd. Finish off.

2nd Rnd: With right side of crochet facing you, being careful that stems don't twist as you are crocheting, attach thread to any 3ch loop at the tip of any stem. 12ch, sl st in 9th ch from hook (first 8ch loop made), *1ch, dtr in same 3ch loop, 10ch, sl st in last dtr, 1ch, dtr in same 3ch loop, 12ch, sl st in last dtr, 1ch, dtr in same 3ch loop, 14ch, sl st in last dtr, 1ch, dtr in same 3ch loop, 12ch, sl st in last dtr, 1ch, dtr in same 3ch loop, 10ch, sl st in last dtr, 1ch, dtr in same 3ch loop, 8ch, sl st in last dtr, 6ch, dtr in 3ch loop of next stem, 8ch, sl st in last dtr *(rep from *5 more times [omitting last dtr, 8ch and sl st in final repeat]), sl st in the 3ch loop at top of 1st stem. Finish off.

Snowflake B
Begin with 10ch, join with sl st to form a ring.

1st Rnd: 1ch, 23dc in ring, sl st in 1ch from beg of rnd.
2nd Rnd: 5ch (miss next dc, tr in next dc, 2ch) 11 times, sl st in 3rd of 5ch from beg of rnd.
3rd Rnd: sl st in next 2ch sp, 1ch, 2dc in same sp, miss tr, 3dc in each sp to end, sl st in 1ch from beg of rnd.

4th Rnd: 7ch, *miss next 2dc, dc in next dc, 9ch, 3dtr cl in 6th ch from hook, 5ch, sl st in base of cl, 3ch, miss next 2dc, dc in next dc, 6ch (rep from * 5 times more, omitting final 6ch in very last repeat), sl st in 1st of 7ch from beg of rnd.
5th Rnd: sl st in next 3ch, 13ch, *triple tr in top of cl, 12ch, dc in next 6ch loop, 12ch (rep from * to end omitting final 12ch in last repeat), sl st in 1st of 13ch from beg of rnd.

6th Rnd: *(8ch, sl st in 3rd of these 8ch) twice [creating 2 picots among chain stitches], 12ch, sl st in 1st of these 12ch to form a large loop, working back down the side of the chain stitches and picots (6ch, sl st in 1st of these 6ch, sl st in base of opposite ch loop underneath the picot and in each of next 2ch) twice (sl st in the 1st of 13ch from beg of previous rnd [in following repeats this is the dc stitch made in the 6ch spaces in the previous rnd], sl st in each of next 12ch and in triple tr). Working a sl st in the second ch from beg ch of each of next ch loops, work 14ch, sl st, 10ch, sl st, 12ch, sl st, 10ch, sl st, 14ch, sl st, sl st in base of first 14ch loop, sl st in next ch, sl st in triple tr, sl st in next 12ch, sl st in next dc (rep from * to end) sl st in last 12ch and in 1st of 13ch from beg of previous rnd. Finish off.

Stiffen snowflakes
In a small dish, mix a solution of 2 parts glue and 1 part water. Lay snowflake in the glue solution. Press out excess glue with your fingers. Lay snowflakes on flat piece of foam and beginning at the centre, pin each into a symmetrical shape. Pull out the spokes straight from the centre, spacing them evenly. Shape loops and picots into a pleasing design. Once dry, remove the pins and add a hanger if desired.

i CANNOT FIND THE GUIDE TO THE CROCHET ABBREVIATIONS. Your site is not too user friendly. Please be a little more specific. I get taken to the cross stitch guide.

you can find those abbreviations about everywhere on the internet, but what really annoys me is those 2 (!) photos of a WHITE snowflake on a WHITE background. i usually look at photographs and count the stitches on them, rather than use diagrams or other instructions.
