Fabric-tied blind

Nov 28 10:38am
Ties in the same fabric as the blind are so easy to adjust.

Fabric ties are sewn to each side of the top of the blind near the side edges. It is then an easy matter to adjust the length of the blind by rolling it up from the bottom and tying each pair of ties together in a bow to hold it in place.

You'll need
Fabric
Matching thread
Velcro or tacks

Here's how
1. Measure the required length and width of the blind and add 8cm to the length and 5cm to the width. Cut out the fabric. Also cut out four pieces 10cm wide by the length of the blind plus 30cm. These pieces will be for the ties.

2. Turn in 5mm down each side and then turn in a 2cm hem. Stitch. Turn in a 2cm hem across the top and stitch. Across the bottom turn in 2cm and then a 4cm hem. Stitch in place.

3. Fold each fabric strip in half lengthwise and, with right sides together and 1cm seams, stitch along the long edge and one end. Turn right side out; zigzag stitch the open ends.

4. Take two ties, fold over the zigzagged edges and then place them together, just overlapping, to make one continuous tie. Lay the blind, wrong side up, on a table and pin the tics to the blind, with the join 3cm from the top and 12cm from the side. Repeat on the other side with the other two ties.

5. Stitch the ties in place. Take the front tie over the top of the blind and catch it against the stitching with a few stitches.

6. Attach the blind to the architrave with Velcro or tacks. Pleat up the blind from the bottom and secure with the ties.
