Knitted patchwork throw

Finished size: 100 x 130cm


Gather your supplies
6 balls each of Patons Totem 8 ply (50g balls) in main colour (MC) red
1st Contrast (C1) deep green
2nd Contrast (C2) lime green
3rd Contrast (C3) Deep Pink
4th Contrast (C4) Purple
One pair of 4.50mm knitting needles or the required size to give the correct tension
4.00mm crochet hook
Wool needle for sewing in ends.

Tension: These items have been designed at a tension of 20 sts and 42 rows to 10cm over garter st, using 4.50mm needles.

Patch 1 (Make 10)
Using 4.50mm needles and MC, cast on 32 sts.
Knit 37 rows garter st, 1st row is wrong side.
Change to C1, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to C2, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to C3, knit 8 rows garter st.
Cast off knitways.

Patch 2 (Make 10)
Using 4.50mm needles and C4, cast on 32 sts.
Knit 37 rows garter st, 1st row is wrong side.
Change to C1, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to C2, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to C3, knit 8 rows garter st.
Cast off knitways.

Patch 3 (Make10)
Using 4.50mm needles and C1, cast on 32 sts.
Knit 37 rows garter st, 1st row is wrong side.
Change to C2, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to MC, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to C4, knit 8 rows garter st.
Cast off knitways.

Patch 4 (Make 9)
Using 4.50mm needles and C3, cast on 32 sts.
Knit 37 rows garter st, 1st row is wrong side.
Change to C4, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to MC, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to C2, knit 8 rows garter st.
Cast off knitways.

Patch (Make 9)
Using 4.50mm needles and C2, cast on 32 sts.
Knit 37 rows garter st, 1st row is wrong side.
Change to C4, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to C3, knit 8 rows garter st.
Change to MC, knit 8 rows garter st.
Cast off knitways.

Crochet flowers (Make 63)
Using 4.00mm hook and colour 1, make 4ch, join with a sl st to form a ring.
1st Round: 3ch, (1htr, 1ch) 4 times in ring, sl st in 2nd ch at beg.
2nd Round: 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 1htr, 1dc) in each 1ch sp to end, sl st in first dc.
Fasten off.
3rd Round: Working behind 2nd round, join colour 2 with a sl st around any htr from first round, 1dc around same htr, * 2ch, 1htr around next htr from first round, rep from * to end, 2ch, sl st in first dc.
4th Round: 1ch, (1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 1htr, 1dc) in each 2ch sp to end, sl st in first dc.
Fasten off.
Make a further 63 crochet flowers alternating colours used.

To make up: Join patches together at corners. Stitch crochet flowers at corner joins (one on each corner).
