Memories are made of this

Nov 27 01:48pm
We tend to stick up our kids' artistic creations all over the place, but here are some truly lovely ways to turn them into real works of art.

Rather than backing frames with the usual cardboard supports, substitute glass backs so you can see right through, then sandwich those magnificent pieces between them. Attach adhesive hooks behind the picture so they do not show.

To create a gallery as appealing as this, choose four identical frames and hang them symmetrically. Luckily, the artwork can be random.

Also paint up plain tiles or plates with a base coat. When they are dry, gather the clan together, paint under their hands and feet with artist's acrylics (available from craft stores) and stamp those little prints (include the dog's, of course) in perpetuity for your mantle.

You might get yourself a little plaster of Paris to mould the plates or tiles before you imprint those cheeky fingers and toes (and paws). And don't forget what great gifts they'd make.

Tip: Arrange your pictures and pottery pieces so the colour and shape give you a pleasing balance. Boy, will you be popular! Then stand back and wait for the compliments from everyone who walks past.

Of course, once you get the hang of framing this way, you can change the works each and every time a new showpiece comes home.
