Port wine Magnolias

Jan 15 10:18am

Michelia figo, better known as the port wine magnolia, is a plant you smell before you see. The small flowers are purple on the outside, paler within, and exude a wonderful fruity perfume which is reminiscent of port wine to some and banana to others! As a shrub, it's also one of the best evergreen screening plants around. Grow it as a hedge in sun or shade.

Do port wine magnolias only give off perfume in the afternoon? That's what mine appear to do, you can't pick up a scent in the mornings.thanks marg1@aapt.net.au
