Soft Floors

Nov 29 02:56pm

Kitchen floors take a lot of busy action, not to mention a few spills. Consider whether hard or soft floors are what you need.

Vinyl
Relatively inexpensive.
Soft and quiet underfoot.
Easy to clean and maintain.
Durable (especially higher-quality grades).
Available in a wide range of colours, patterns and sizes.
DIY installation is an option (tiles and planks).
Any damage is relatively easy to repair.
May show wear after about five years (especially lower-quality grades).
Usually requires professional installation (sheet vinyl).

Check the Yellow Pages under Floor Coverings.

Linoleum
More environmentally friendly than vinyl.
Can be cut into intricate patterns.
Very hard wearing.
Many colours and patterns available.
Must be laid professionally.

Check the Yellow Pages under Floor Coverings.

Cork

Comes as tiles but are susceptible to water damage.
Comes in a limited range of colours and styles.
Needs sealing.
Relatively expensive.

Check the Yellow Pages under Cork Merchants.

Rubber tiles
Durable and hard wearing.

Many require periodic polishing to maintain their sheen.
