Film & Television: The Line Continues to Blur
Nelson takes a closer look at this year’s Emmy nominations...

This weekend we have the Emmy Awards and, in reading the list of nominees, you could easily mistake it as a list for those other gongs they hand out in the early quarter of the new year. You know...the ones that come after the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, People's Choice and Razzies. What are they called again??

With the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals freshly finished, those big-screen blockbuster and star turns are going to be assaulting us at every Cineplex, but it is the small-screen celebrities who are now taking the spotlight. Far past the days when television was known as "the boob tube," it has become the haven for some of our greatest actors who'd rather continue to work than hold out for movie-only opportunities. Let's look at some of those folks among this year's Emmy noms. Please comment with your picks for the deserved winners.

Actor, Drama Series
Representing former film glory, we have James Spader (Boston Legal) & Keifer Sutherland (24) taking on Denis Leary (Rescue Me), Hugh Laurie (House) and James Gandolfini (The Sopranos).

Actress, Drama Series
Oscar-friendly Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters) and Minnie Driver (The Riches) can cat-fight it out with Kra Sedwick (The Closer), Mariska Hargitar (Law & Order: SVU) , Edie Falco (The Sopranos) and Patricia Arquette (Medium).

Actress, Comedy Series
From frying green tomatoes to harvesting marijuana, Mary Louise Parker (Weeds) is a favourite up against America Ferrara (Ugly Betty), Tina Fey (30 Rock), Julia Louis-Dreyfuss (The New Adventures of Old Christine), and Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives).

Actor, Comedy Series
Three fellas with considerable film credits, Alec Baldwin (30 Rock), Steve Carell (The Office) and Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men) will battle against Tony Shalhoub (Monk) and Ricky Gervais (Extras).

Supporting Actor, Comedy Series
Film's not quite so well represented here. Jon Cryer (Two and a Half Men), Jeremy Piven (Entourage), Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), Kevin Dillon (Entourage) and Rainn Wilson (The Office).

Supporting Actor, Drama Series.
William Shatner (Boston Legal), Michael Emerson (Lost), Terry O'Quinn (Lost), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), T.R. Knight (Grey's Anatomy) and Masi Oka (Heroes).

Supporting Actress, Drama Series.
Divine Rachel Griffth (Brothers & Sisters) and Sandra Oh (Grey's Anatomy) have their small-screen sisters to contend with: Chandra Wilson (Grey's Anatomy), Katherine Heigel (Grey's Anatomy), Aida Turturro (The Sopranos) and Lorraine Bracco (The Sopranos).

Supporting Actress, Comedy Series
Former Wilma Flintstone Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds) has formidable competition in Conchata Ferrell (Two and a Half Men), Jenna Fischer (The Office), Holland Taylor (Two and a Half Men), Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty) and Jaime Pressly (My Name is Earl)

And those are just the nominees for SERIES!!! For Television Movies, Mini-Series and Specials, check out some of these names! Robert Duvall, William H. Macy, Jim Broadbent, Queen Latifah, Helen Mirren, Gena Rowlands, Thomas Haden Church, Aidan Quinn, Greta Scacchi, Judy Davis, Toni Collette.

Now don't be a movie snob (or maybe...go ahead, DO!) and tell me which stars and their performances you think should take home the top prizes on Emmy night!

I wanna see some underdogs get it! My support is in the corner of Denis Leary, Minnie Driver, and Neil Patrick Harris (fellow La Cueva High School alum - Go Bears!)

I most enjoy Mariska Hagitar, Sally Field & Greta Sacchi. But for sheer spunk, charm and brilliant acting you can't beat McLeod's Daughters who unfortunately don't feature in this line-up.

Dear Nelson, Could you please supply the author and title of the novel that Kathryn Heigl is producing, you were speaking about it on Sunrise this week? Thanks Monika
